The clockwork symbolism was already locked-in to the brand new main titles we designed, by the time we created this piece. We wanted to combine some of the previous era’s aesthetics with those of the incoming one. Hence the use of the interlocking gears within the pre-existing DW insignia. The mist transition, from the mechanical to the smooth surfaced symbol, harks back to the cloud vortex used in previous series’ main titles.
